Trailer Hopping : A Thousand Words is Almost Picture Perfect

If you’re like me and secretly hoping that the next Eddie Murphy movie will be his comeback movie to his heydays, then, let’s pray that this is it. I laughed from the get-go. Not only that, there isn’t a fart or fat joke in sight. The entire trailer has an energetic and fun feel – from the music to the vibrant green leaves and text between each scene.

Eddie Murphy stars as a man who can talk his way in and out of anything until he meets a spiritual guru who teaches him the valuable lesson of telling the truth. (I’m presuming, since the trailer doesn’t tell us the consequence or lesson learned yet.)

The comedy is very clever from beginning to end. Having Eddie Murphy play the role of a yakking parrot-like man appropriately named Jack McCall, is also perfect, considering Murphy’s known for his endless, mile-a-minute motor mouth and nonsense chatter. Each non-talking scene is well staged for quick-witted and light humor, such as the paper in the waste basket to say “yes” or the surprised response to his wife wanting “to talk” or the young guy, Clark Duke, as a ghetto and trash-talking wise-guy while Murphy remains speechless.

The quality of the trailer is superb, with every last detail crystal clear, set in a breath-taking hill top environment. Go back and watch how each leave’s vein line on the fake tree is visible and how the tree is curved and knotted upwards into hundreds of branches. I’m not certain of the relevance of such detail, but it’s a nice touch. And, Eddie Murphy’s house has a view of some valley. That’s just gorgeous. No sarcasm intended.

It’s also a nice touch to use the 30 Rock door man, Jack McBrayer, as a Starbucks cashier. Who else but a nice, sweet boy would tolerate your charade games of nipple squeezing instead of pouring hot coffee on you and kicking you out?

A Thousand Words is scheduled to open on March 9, 2012. It stars Eddie Murphy as Jack McCall, and includes a fun cast of actors out to make you laugh and comedians like Kerry Washington, Allison Janney, Cliff Curtis, Jack McBrayer, Clark Duke, Justina Machado, and Terrence Bernie Hines.
