Trailer Hopping : Think Like a Man Comedy Routines Turned Movie

Rating: No Butter

Think Like A Man trailer is well put together; it sets up the premise of the movie nicely, introduces the main characters and their personality and issues, introduces the director and his credentials, sets up what to expect in the movie with the narration, and doesn’t have a lot of annoying black spaces between scenes. And, the movie is what you would expect from a Steve Harvey book – a two hour Steve Harvey stand-up routine.

The trailer plays out to be take after take of short comedy routines, juxtaposed into a somewhat cohesive story about four friends who play emotional mind games with their ladies. Hence, most scenes are funny as standalone scenes, and probably no matter how you arrange the scenes, you’ll still get the jest of what the movie is about. This could be the new direction of comedy routines.

One disappointment is the description says four friends are turning the game on their girlfriends, but most scenes have six guys. That could mean the two, or is it just one?, non-Black guys only show up as just that – maybe the non-Black guys help round out the mostly Black cast and only show up as background. Not sure why since a movie with an all-Black cast could be just as entertaining and fun. And, if they were trying to round out the cast, they would really try and find more actors of other ethnicities, but I’m sure that’s not the goal either.

Besides, I don’t know why they would want to do anything to cut down on the stereotypes since the movie cannot be any more stereotypical towards men. As the trailer shows, men are pigs who have big egos and only want to sleep with attractive woman without the emotional baggage. One sleeps with them and literally runs; one has no romantic sense and brings his mom to a Valentine’s date with a girl – really, now; another is pretending to be bigger and better than who he really is; and the last one, well, the last one is pure rowdy and raucous entertainment, with all the “best” of the unconscious male embodiments spoken out loud.

Overall, funny scenes, great cast and exactly what you would expect from Steve Harvey comedy routines, although not so great or most unique story told. Doesn't matter since Steve Harvey and the cast alone could make it a decent hit.

Think Like a Man is scheduled to open on April 20, 2012. It stars the guys, Michael Ealy, Jerry Ferrara, Kevin Hart, Terrence Jenkins, Romany Malco, Gary Owen and Chris Brown. The girls are Meagan Good, Regina Hall, Taraji P. Henson, Jennifer Lewis, Gabrielle Union, and La La Anthony – the wife of Carmelo Anthony; so, yes, expect a cameo or two by some basketball players.
