Trailer Hopping : Resident Evil Comes Back One Last Time
The Resident Evil – Retribution teaser trailer is one big noisy and busy cluster F -- F for flop. The trailer was one dizzying minute of running, jumping, chasing and bullets flying, filled with head swirling music in the background. The only thing enjoyable about the trailer is how sexy Milla Jovovich looked in that perfectly fitted black outfit.
This world must be the fantasy of a man, envisioning women in different action poses and outfits. As much as it showcased kick-ass women saving the world, the trailer didn’t miss highlighting the red, hot stripper gear, complete with something strapped to her naked thigh, black stilettos and a cape. The director must have a “thing” for black and red clothes, because it showed up a couple times in the trailer. The trailer started with a still pose of Milla Jovovich, who plays Alice, giving us the sexy stare-down before ripping whatever she’s gazing at into shreds of nothingness, interlace by big budget mayhem.
The big budget items for this $90 million movie probably went into creation of the machineries and sets – the heavily armored and futuristic fighter jets, the monsters and expensive sets. What it missed was setting a consistent tone for the movie. The trailer bounced around from having a futuristic feel with armored utilities and slick, black outfits, to Milla’s checkered pattern shirt in a modern day scene of a police car and siren. In what era or time period do they still wear such ugly plaid shirts? Then, the next minute she was fitted to fight evil in a video game style.
They should stick with the clean metallic and black look and feel and skip trying to pull off a man’s fantasy of women and guns. What captured that imagined was the sparse text between the scenes and the title sequence at the end. But, we’re not here to look at text, are we?
Resident Evil – Retribution is scheduled to open on September 14, 2012. The movie stars Milla Jovovich, who has played Alice in the last four of the five films. Michelle Rodriguez plays Rain Caimpo and BingBing Li plays Ada. There are men in the movie, too, but the trailer only showed women, so I’m only mentioning some women. Maybe that’s indicative of how many times a man shows up in the film compared to the women.
