Trailer Hopping : Prometheus – It Just Sounds Scary
The trailer for Prometheus is a one minute of nightmare inducing terror. The music drives the mood of the entire trailer, with its intense drum beats, nail-scraping and radio static sounds that crawl under your skin and leave an aftershock after the trailer’s over. Adding to that are eerie animal wailing sounds with a woman screaming “please” that turn the whole trailer into something from a horror movie instead of a sci-fi film. The rest of the trailer blurs non-chronological scenes of people running, things blowing up, test tubes, and more people running behind a display of the title. This entire sequence of the title slowly emerging onto the screen is very distracting that the rest of the trailer is forgettable. I’d like to think that the entire movie is forgettable too, if not for the music.
Prometheus is scheduled to open June 8, 2012. The movie was intended as a prequel to Ridley Scott’s Alien movies. Although there will be some similarities to the Alien movies, like the universe, Prometheus will be a standalone movie. Prometheus stars Noomi Rapace, who is probably widely known in the U.S. because of the original Girl with the Dragon Tattoo movies. She later appears in a string of movies, including the second Sherlock Holmes film. Joining her are Charlize Theron, Michael Fassbender, Patrick Wilson and Guy Pearce.
