Trailer Hopping : The Big Wedding is Crap; Yes, I Said Crap
The only reason I’m writing about The Big Wedding is because it has an all-star cast, although before watching the trailer, I started with very low expectations. Why? Because the poster looks like a pretentious and meaningless wedding movie that makes no sense.
And after watching the trailer? OMG. Send this movie directly to DVD please. There is nothing that spells big screen in this trailer. When a trailer leads to more story questions than excitements or answers, it’s time to stop throwing more marketing dollars at it.
I should have lowered my expectations a lot more. The story is flawed and senseless. The movie stages different events to create awkwardness or laughs without making the story any stronger or solid. Awkwardness was created with the ex-wife randomly walking into the house of the ex-husband and new wife. A senseless fake marriage was created to please the son’s biological mother. What era are we in? Why can’t Robert De Niro be married to Susan Sarandon and be Ben Barnes’ parents? If his biological Spanish mother has seen Ben Barnes’ adopted parents already, wouldn’t he have mentioned the divorce to her earlier? Divorce is such a life altering event that for most people, it’s difficult to hide or ignore, even to Catholic parents.
None of the characters appear likable. I’d expect Robin Williams to be more fun and entertaining, but they’ve shown him doing nothing more than sit and talk. Bland.
Diane Keaton’s white blouses and appearances are getting old. They might as well just cut and paste her from any of her other movies and save on her appearance expenses. She may find that to be her best look, but the movie audience is finding it boring and tasteless. It’s a movie; I’m looking for a fictional character portrayed by Diane Keaton, not the real Diane Keaton.
Robert De Niro is portrayed as an abused and disappointing husband, ex-husband and father. He’s capable of making audiences laugh, so why make him stoop so low for a couple of laughs?
Did I throw enough insults at this trailer yet? If not, I could go on, but it’s just a waste of time.
Despite all that, The Big Wedding is still slated to open on October 26, 2012. It meshed a group of talented actors in the wrong movie. The cast includes Robert De Niro, Robin Williams, Diane Keaton, Susan Sarandon, Katherine Heigl, Topher Grace, Amanda Seyfried, Ben Barnes and others.
