Trailer Hopping
Stallone's Bullet to the Head Is Dry Action
Bullet to the Head trailer is an action film starring Sylvester Stallone as a hitman and Sung Kang as a police detective, partnering to seek revenge on the death of their partners. It seems like all the “good” characters from the Expendables are starring in an action movie, with very similar and straight-forward story lines about seeking revenge or redemption or saving the princess. Stallone’s film combines all three storylines into one not very interesting movie. More »
Parker is Another Jason Statham Staple
The Parker trailer looks very similar to other Jason Statham movies. He has created such an image for himself that his name is synonymous with action movies about a tough guy who has hot steamy sex scenes with beautiful women and can single-handedly beat the crap out of bunch of bad guys. The audience will know exactly what they’ll get from a Jason Statham movie – a lot of broken bones and seduction. More »
Having Fun Watching Hansel and Gretel Hunt Witches
The Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters trailer looks like a fun and light-hearted action film about gunning down witches in nineteenth century Germany. More »
Outrageously Funny and Disgusting Movie 43
The trailer for Movie 43 is so disgusting and crude I have to write about it. It’s a trailer that is disturbing and offensive in every way; and what’s saving it from causing every rights group to strike against it is probably its honesty. The film tells the viewer exactly what to expect and has no hidden agenda about its outrageous and fowl nature. More »
Pacific Rim Is Action Packed And Ordinary
Guillermo Del Toro gets into the game of big budget action adventure sci-fi films with Pacific Rim, a film about human-controlled robots made to destroy monsters who are trying to take over Earth. The Pacific Rim trailer is an action packed film featuring robots and monsters destroying objects and each other using slow motion punches and kicks. And, that’s all there is to the trailer and probably the movie. More »
LIght Hearted and Touching Romantic Comedy: Playing for Keeps
Playing for Keeps. Gerald Butler and romantic comedies. Between his rugged handsomeness, well-built stature and Scottish accent that women seemed to love, why would he want to do anything else? More »
Jack Reacher is Badass Entertainment
Pumped up and badass, Drop the Lime’s State Trooper music, helped propel the Jack Reacher trailer to a high energy and fun movie worth watching. It’s amazing what a big difference the right music can do for a trailer. It also helps that the Jack Reacher trailer moves fast, is action packed and has a small slice of Tom Cruise’s action hero and tough guy humor. More »
A Bland Black and White Trailer Zero Dark Thirty
If it weren’t for the good Oscar worthy buzz on this movie, I would never have written about the trailer for Zero Dark Thirty. Both trailers, the two minute something and the one minute something trailers seemed to be over dramatizations of a city map shown over intense music of a straight-forward and mundane ten year manhunt for a terrorist good at eluding his seekers. More »
The Host Appears to be a Rewritten Twilight With Aliens
The Host trailer provides a brief glimpse of a story of love, survival and moral or ethical debates or issues. The movie may not end up providing more than that or provide an interesting back story of why aliens would invade, how some humans manage to escape their wrath and manage to survive. More »
The Collection Comes Up Short of Thrills
It always amazes me how horror films can consistently be made with a relatively low budget, no big name actors and still make money using disturbing music or sounds, cheap thrills and scream tactics. The Collection is another one of these horror films that appear to have a couple of heart-pounding thrills, some screams and gore, without any spectacular or noteworthy scenes. More »
Wreck-It Ralph Worth the Playing Time
The Wreck-It Ralph trailer is a nice little walk down memory lane. I’m betting the people who like this trailer are just as nostalgic about those old video games, like Pac-Man, Sonic the Hedgehog, or the Street Fighter guys as I am. Despite the lack of realistic graphics, fancy hand held controls and simulation tools we have now, the simplicity of those games still brings about the same joy of playing a video game – the emotional rollercoasters that go along with playing the game, the desire to beat the last highest score or conquer just one, only one more level before stopping. Lincoln: A Movie As Well-regarded As the President Himself
The Lincoln trailer is a melodramatic epic masterpiece lacking in visual appeal. If anyone could do an impressive job commemorating one of the most respected and well-known presidents, it would be Steven Spielberg. Yet, the fast flashing trailer scenes are annoying and do not sync up with the continuous dialogue summarizing the storyline, making it difficult to follow the scene and the conversations simultaneously. Les Miserables Is Convincingly Wretched Good
The introduction to Les Miserables on the big screen starts with a melancholy song beautifully sung by Anne Hathaway as Fantine. The rest of the trailer follows the sad song with scene after scene of a war torn, miserable and shambled France. More »
Twilight Ends With A Bang
The grand finale of The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2 appears to be about a war of the few against an army of many. Although completely different from the book and lacking in romance and mushy love stories of the other Twilight movies, the trailer looks like entertaining, fast pace action of an epic battle between the Cullens and their allies against the Volturi. Heavy on Looks and Light on Narrative Life of Pi
In Life of Pi, Ang Lee captured the detail and mundane essence of life from a book about survival, solitude and hallucination using one of his best talents, the ability to transform each and every scene into meticulously colorful scenes that, at times, appear almost holy enough to hear a glorious church choir singing Hallelujah in the background. The trailer showed great focus on visuals and directionally focused on the audience seeing and feeling the spiritual beauty of Pi’s struggle for survival. More »
