'Twilight' retains top spot with $17 mil; holdovers 'Skyfall,' 'Lincoln' round out top three
variety.com –
In its third frame with $17.4 million, Summit's "Twilight" finale, "Breaking Dawn -- Part 2," eked out a narrow victory over Sony-MGM's "Skyfall," which grossed an estimated $17 million in its fourth domestic outing. "Part 2" has cumed $254.6 million domestically and counting; "Skyfall" reached $246 million Stateside. The post-Thanksgiving frame usually is one of the slowest moviegoing weekends of the year, though with totals at north of $110 million, this weekend doesn't even rank in the top five slowest frames of 2012.

The popular vampire franchise’s final installment, The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2, scored the eighth biggest opening weekend of all time with a $141.3 million debut. If Summit’s estimates hold up, that’s just a touch ahead of Breaking Dawn – Part 1, which started with $138.1 million last year, and just a touch behind New Moon, which opened with $142.8 million in 2009.
