‘LEGO Movie 2’ Fails to Stack Up The LEGO Movie franchise is falling apart. Since the debut of The LEGO Movie exactly five years ago, the series of animated features based on the iconic toy bricks has seen diminishing returns at the box office. While The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part opened better than The LEGO Ninjago Movie, the new installment came up remarkably short considering it’s a direct sequel to the very successful original. Has the novelty worn off?

Weekend Box Office: Everything Is Decidedly Not Awesome For ‘The Lego Movie 2’ Warner Brothers All the right conditions existed this weekend for The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part to be a huge hit. Critics loved it (84 percent on Rotten Tomatoes), and so have audiences (A- Cinemascore). Moviegoers have been starved for a big new release since the holidays; the last two weekends haven’t even seen a major release; and there hasn’t been a major film directed at families with kids since Mary Poppins over the holidays.

The setting of The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part is a drastic departure from the sunny metropolis of the first hit film. The beloved Bricksburg has been transformed into post-apocalyptic wasteland named Apocalypseburg, and Emmet, Lucy, Batman, and co. must survive the barren Mad Max-inspired environment.

‘The Lego Movie 2’ Cant Capture The Surprising Magic Of The First Movie Warner Bros. Remember way back when the original The Lego Movie was announced? People were skeptical! Phil Lord and Chris Miller did had some goodwill built up between Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs and 21 Jump Street, but, mostly, people just assumed there’s no possible way a movie about LEGOs could be good. Looking back, The Lego Movie just may have been a miracle – the perfect storm of everything and everyone coming together at the right time to make something glorious. I adore that movie. Now, it kind of feels like something that just can’t be recreated.

One of the best things about The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part is that we’ll be getting a whole new slew of LEGO sets featuring the characters, vehicles and settings from the movie. While they won’t all be worth picking up from the store, the first three that have been revealed from the animated sequel certainly like they’ll make solid additions to any LEGO fan’s collection. First Look at The LEGO Movie 2 Playsets The first playset from The LEGO Movie 2 (revealed through the official LEGO Twitter account) features a vehicle that Max Rockatansky pretty happy.

‘Incredibles 2’ Spoiler Review: The Family That Fights Together, Stays Together The Incredibles arrived on the scene in 2004 when superheroes were taking off at the box office, but hadn’t ventured into the behemoth of success that would come with the beginning of the Marvel Cinematic Universe just four years later. Now that 14 years have passed since the original, the superhero game is well-tread and seasoned territory.
