Where a film like Transformers: Age of Extinction certainly works in 4DX, San Andreas is about characters being in an environment that moves around.

Review: Dwayne Johnson shines but earthquake takes center stage in 'San Andreas' 'San Andreas' delivers all the crazy movie mayhem anyone could ask of the genre, and it has a genuinely appealing cast, but is there any way for disaster movies to be better than this?
