Production for The Two Faces of January began in Athens in August of 2012 and the first day was a major event. Director Hussein Amini planned to stage the first shot at Athens’ Acropolis, a gathering spot of ancient buildings and one of Europe’s biggest tourist traps; closing it off for filming was more than a challenge.

When I was prognosticating the score for “The Counselor” on Rotten Tomatoes a couple days ago, I was thinking it would score well, especially with the talents involved; it’s directed by Ridley Scott, written by Pulitzer Prize winning author Cormac McCarthy, and stars Michael Fassbender, Javier Bardem, Cameron Diaz, Penelope Cruz, and Brad Pitt.

There’s as much schmaltz as art in the new thriller by Niels Arden Oplev, director of the Swedish Girl With The Dragon Tattoo. There’s also a major bait and switch organized by the film’s marketing campaign that adds so much to the tension I’m going to do my best not to spoil it; such things deserve preservation.
What's Coming up for Two of the Seven Psychopaths

In Bruges writer/director Martin McDonagh, brought partner in crime Collin Farrell with him into his newest dark comedy, Seven Psychopaths. In pursuit of the other six psychos, McDonagh recruited Woody Harrelson, Christopher Walken and Tom Waits, rounding the cast out with one Billy Bickle. Named for Travis of Taxi Driver, Billy's played by America's favorite unhinged buddy, Sam Rockwell.
