Flying Swords of Dragon Gate
I’ve seen “The Flying Swords of Dragon Gate” on Bluray and loved it. I read about how awesome the 3D was, so I wanted to see for myself. There was a screening at Cannes in May, but I couldn’t catch it.

"The Flying Swords of Dragon Gate"
“The Flying Swords of Dragon Gate” opened yesterday in select IMAX 3D theaters across the U.S. for a limited two week engagement. Because of that, it’s getting some reviews from the U.S. press on Rotten Tomatoes.

Chuck Norris in "The Expendables 2"
When Sylvester Stallone’s “The Expendables” was released in 2010, it got 41% on the Tomatometer. That didn’t deter action fans from making it a sleeper hit at the box office, where it grossed $103M. It was one of Lionsgate’s biggest hits at the time. In this newer outing, Stallone is only starring in the film, handing the director’s chair to action vet Simon West (“Con Air”).

Before I began, don’t go any further if you don’t want to know. Even though it’s obvious that you do want to because, otherwise, you wouldn’t have clicked on this link. So here goes. In the official synopsis from Lionsgate for “The Expendables 2,” a member of the team will die horribly during one of their missions and forces the remaining members to avenge his death.

Painted Skin II: Resurrection
I think we can hand the all-time Chinese box office crown to “Painted Skin II: Resurrection” sometime this week. After taking in a record-breaking $47.1M in its first week in China, it topped the charts for a consecutive week with $36.3M. Its total now stands at an otherworldly $83.7M after just eleven days. The all-time box office champ in China is “Let the Bullets Fly,” which shattered box office records in 2010 with $103M.

Yikes! "Double Trouble" Only Made $9,000 in HK

Jaycee Chan’s foray into action comedy, a genre his dad Jackie Chan has had huge success in, is turning into a complete and utter dud. In China, “Double Trouble” squeaked out $0.7M before dropping off the top ten. In the U.S., it has grossed $45K in a dozen theaters after a couple of weeks in release.

With $47.1M Opening, "Painted Skin II: Resurrection" Sets Several Box Office Records in China

Painted Skin II: Resurrection
The first “Painted Skin” stars Donnie Yen as a demon fighter. His demon fighting skills are requested when a demon, who has taken on the form of a human, falls in love with a general and kills whoever stands between them. It’s a supernatural thriller with action, romance, comedy and pretty good special effects - yeah, basically, a big budget hong kong movie with actors from both the Hong Kong and Chinese film industry.

Cannes: Impressive Clip for Tony Jaa's "Tom Yum Goong 2" (a.k.a. "The Protector 2")

Tony Jaa in "Tom Yum Goong 2"
Sahamongkol Film, the makers of "Tom Yum Goong 2" (a.k.a "The Protector 2"), had a booth at their usual spot in the Film Market at Cannes. At least, that’s what I remembered when I was there several years ago when they were promoting “Ong Bak 2.” They had a clip of an animated feature playing in rotation on their big screen TV - not exactly what I was looking for.

Jet Li in "The Expendables 2"
Yesterday, we got a teaser for the today’s trailer premiere of “The Expendables 2.” Teasers for trailer premieres are here to stay. It all started with trailers for Ridley Scott’s highly anticipated Alien prequel (possibly) “Prometheus.” I guess Lionsgate thinks that “The Expendables 2” has that level of anticipation. Well, I’m looking forward to it.

With "The Raid: Redemption," Iko Uwais Completes The New Triumvirate of Asian Action Stars

The Raid: Redemption
To me, Bruce Lee, Jackie Chan, and Jet Li are the first triumvirate of Asian martial arts stars. For a while, martial arts fans were wondering who would take their place when Chan and Li are slowed by age. In 2003, Tony Jaa became an international sensation after the release of “Ong Bak.” Critics compared him to a young Chan, and rightfully so.
