I was predicting Owen Wilson’s action thriller “No Escape” to do $15M this weekend. Well, it looks like I’ll be wrong. According to Deadline.com, “No Escape” took in $1.2M yesterday, and that includes $300K from Tuesday evening screenings.

According to Variety and its sister site Deadline, Ed Helm’s latest comedy “Vacation” isn’t meeting expectations at the box office. New Line’s’ reboot of Chevy Chase’s 1983 hit took in $3.8M on Wednesday, which includes $1.2M from Tuesday’s evening screenings.

I saw “Killing Them Softly” with Popcorn at the Cannes Film Festival in May. I liked it. The exchanges between the mobsters were funny and the story, compared to some of the other films in the Cannes line-up, was pretty straightforward. Popcorn’s reaction was mixed.

After already banking $321M overseas in a couple of weeks, “Skyfall” has finally landed in U.S. yesterday, taking in a massive $30.8M, an opening day record for the fifty year franchise according to BoxOfficeMojo.com. With Thursday’s revenue from midnight and IMAX screenings, its total is $33M so far. For the weekend, it’s projected to pull in $80M-$90M, also a new opening record for the franchise.

Pixar’s “Brave” did $24.5M on Friday and is expected to gross around $70M this weekend, better than the $60M box office analysts were projecting. According to BoxOfficeMojo.com, it’s the third highest opening day box office for Pixar behind “Toy Story 3” ($41M) and “Cars 2” ($25.7M).
