‘The Great Wall’ Builds Solid Thursday Box Office Total of $970K Legendary and Universal’s Chinese import “The Great Wall,” starring Matt Damon, made $970,000 in 2,470 locations at Thursday night previews. The film will expand to 3,326 locations on Friday for a Presidents’ Day Weekend that analysts expect will be dominated by last week’s releases, like “The Lego Batman Movie” and “Fifty Shades Darker.” Directed by Zhang Yimou, “The Great Wall” has grossed $171 million in China and an additional $53.5 million from 31 other international markets.

Bryan Cranston Eyes 'The Great Wall' Alongside Matt Damon Breaking Bad star Bryan Cranston is in early talks to join the cast of Legendary East's The Great Wall, just two days after we reported that Matt Damon is also circling the project.The movie has been in the works for several years, with Edward Zwick once set to direct and Henry Cavill and Benjamin Walker set to star. The project fell apart after Edward Zwick dropped out in September 2012, but it was revitalized once again in March when Chinese filmmaker Yimou Zhang signed on to direct.No details have been given for Matt Damon and Bryan Cranston's characters.
