Independence Day 2 & 3, whenever they're coming, will not be the last we'll see of humanity fighting back against invading extraterrestrials by hacking into their computer systems if Roland Emmerich and Dean Devlin have their way. No, those two sequels, if they are successful, are just the beginning of the duo's plan to create "a series" of films based on this universe.

Jurassic Park 4 was scheduled to go before the cameras this June, but it is heading back to the drawing boards instead. Universal has decided to comply with the filmmakers' wishes to give them more "time to bring audiences the best possible version of the fourth installment." The cause of the delay is unknown but it may have something to do with the script.

When J.J. Abrams was hired to direct Star Wars: Episode VII, it was uncertain if he would be able to direct Star Trek 3 as well. Now, it's becoming increasingly clear that he won't. Paramount wants Star Trek 3 out in 2016 for the franchise's 50th anniversary, but that schedule will conflict with Abrams' work on Episode VII.

Warner Bros. has been trying to land a director for its Justice League movie, but those the studio talked to or rumored to have talked to -- Ben Affleck, Brett Ratner, the Wachowskis, among others -- didn't work out for one reason or another. The latest word is that WB will have Zack Snyder direct it if his Man of Steel is a hit.

We all know the only reason Disney bought Lucasfilm from George Lucas is for the Star Wars franchise. And if everything goes as planned, there will be a Star Wars movie coming out every year starting with Episode VII in 2015.

Sorry folks, Christopher Nolan is not working on Justice League, Warner Bros' answer to Marvel's The Avengers. The studio's rep and Nolan's rep have both come out to debunk the rumor that he is. The studio will announce the plan to its superhero movies in the coming weeks, so stay tuned.

Roger Ebert, the first film critic to win a Pulitzer, passed away on Thursday. He was 70. His death was a surprise to those not close to him because he didn't reveal the severity of his condition when he announced that he was taking a leave of absence from reviewing movies to treat an re-occurrence of cancer.

The Independence Day sequels, called ID Forever Part I and ID Forever Part II, will take place 20 years after the events in the first movie, when the aliens return to finish up what they've started.

It's not often that one hears about a director dropping out of a movie, especially on the first day of the shoot. That's what happened to the Natalie Portman-starrer Jane Got a Gun when Lynne Ramsay didn't show up for work earlier this week. Word is, she may have quit over not having final cut of the movie.

To the surprise of nearly everyone, Safety Not Guaranteed's Colin Trevorrow was announced as the director of Jurassic Park 4 this week. Not bad for someone with only one feature to his name. If Trevorrow does well with Jurassic Park 4, his profile will surely increase and he will be guaranteeing himself a couple more big budget movies to direct.
