'Underworld' Gets Rebooted

Underworld: Awakening was released just two years ago and was the highest grossing movie in the series, but Lakeshore Entertainment feels it's time to give the franchise the good old reboot, THR has learned. Cory Goodman has been hired to write the script.

Ok, I know from TV Spots that I, Frankenstein is from the creators of Underworld, but do you they have to copy the latter film’s poster too? They’re pretty much the same, except Underworld’s is a bit more zoomed in.

The weekend estimates are here, and there are a some surprises. “The Grey,” a survival thriller featuring fisticuffs between Liam Neeson and wild animals, did better than expected. It started Friday with an estimate of $5M-$6M, but the final figure ended up being $6.5M. Good reviews probably helped. When the weekend was done, it hauled in $20M, which is a few million better than what box office pundits have predicted.

This week at the box office, both “Underworld: Awakening” and “Red Tails” performed at the upper end of predictions. “Haywire” did as predicted, but gets trashed by audiences.

Screen Gems decided not to screen “Underworld: Awakening,” the fourth installment of the vampire series starring Kate Beckinsale, for critics in the U.S. The previous three films scored 30%, 16%, and 31% respectively on the Tomatometer, so they figured why harmed the film’s grosses this weekend with what will probably be bad reviews for the latest film.
