They took their sweet time about it, but Universal and Legendary have finally gotten their acts together and pressed the button on a sequel to Guillermo del Toro's Pacific Rim, with a scheduled release date of April 7, 2017. Del Toro will be back, of course, and has promised fans, "We are happy to be bringing you more Jaegers, more Kaijus, kicking each other’s butts."

Guillermo del Toro
Almost from the moment Pacific Rim arrived in theaters last summer, we've seen box office reports and analysis wondering if Guillermo del Toro's non-sequel, non-spinoff, non-reboot blockbuster would make enough money to trigger a follow-up installment. Pacific Rim is the newest by beloved director and monster-fan Guillermo Del Toro, but it doesn’t feel like his typical fare. Pacific Rim
Guillermo del Toro's giant robot/monster flick Pacific Rim is still a couple months away, but we know Earth's forces didn't get it done against the giant creatures threatening humanity because Legendary Pictures has commissioned a sequel. And that usually means we'll be seeing a lot more of those giant creatures called the Kaiju.
