Tom Cruise News

Film School Rejects conducted a rather interesting interview with Edge of Tomorrow' screenwriter Christopher McQuarrie ("Jack Reacher"). In it, the Oscar-winning scribe is asked about two topics that people had the most issues with: excessive exposition and the film's ending. McQuarrie admits that he had to sell director Doug Liman on some of the exposition-heavy scenes. Specifically, when Emily Blunt's character explains the rules to Tom Cruise's Cage. As for the ending, people have voiced their displeasure with how the film concluded. Spoilers! Spoilers!

Top Gun
Jerry Bruckheimer has said that the long-awaited sequel to Top Gun would involve drones. In 1986, Maverick (Tom Cruise) was the hottest top gun in the skies, so now we have to wonder if Maverick is still the top gun against drones. Jerry Bruckheimer settled the debate for me even before the movie has started production. "Well, I think he can think on his feet where the drones can't," Bruckheimer said.

Edge of Tomorrow
This is going to be a good weekend for moviegoers—the two films arriving in theaters today have received a great deal of positive feedback from critics, and are different enough to offer something for just about everybody, including those who are choosy in terms of film quality (how many weekends can you say that about?).

BOX OFFICE: EDGE OF TOMORROW Earns $1.8 Million At Thursday Night Showings Edge of Tomorrow has all the makings of a hit, but with The Fault In Our Stars poised to grab moviegoers attention this weekend, the $178 million budgeted movie looks set to debut in the $25 million range after earning $1.8 million at late Thursday night showings. However, that bests Tom Cruise's last sci-fi movie Oblivion, and some analysts believe that Edge of Tomorrow could earn as much as $35 million. It's simply too early to say at this point!

The Definitive Ranking of Tom Cruise’s Best Cinematic Sidekicks Warner Bros. America’s favorite movie star, the action ass-kicker of the last decade (or two, or three) and professional big-smiler Tom Cruise has the uncanny ability to charmingly dominate each and every film he stars in. That’s what being a leading man is all about, really, but Cruise manages to do it while surrounded by all kinds of seemingly distracting things — attractive co-stars, cool technological gadgets, extreme sports — and is still able to consistently emerge as the main event.

10:33 PM 6/4/2014 by Sara Vizcarrondo
Edge of Tomorrow uses Tom Cruise to cleverly riff on the 'universal soldier,' resulting in a movie that’s more exciting than Oblivion but not as funny as Groundhog’s Day. Based on the Hiroshi Sakurazaka novel “All You Need is Kill,” the film takes place after an alien invasion has begun expediently dispatching the earth’s population.
