The Possession News

Box office report: 'The Possession' leads the worst weekend in over a decade – Lionsgate’s $14 million horror entry The Possession once again topped the chart with $9.5 million. The film, which earned a “B” CinemaScore grade last week, enjoyed a better than expected hold (it dropped 46 percent) — especially since its debut results were inflated by it bowing on a holiday weekend.

Friday Box Office – THE POSSESSION Holds with $2.8 Million on Dismal First Friday of Fall – And you thought last weekend was weak. With Friday estimates in, it appears that no film will reach $10 million by Sunday – a box office calamity that has not been equaled since Bangkok Dangerous debuted at number one with just $7.7 million in September 2008. Unfortunately, this weekend’s new releases will fall short of even that sorry benchmark; leaving Lionsgate’s The Possession to hold down the top spot for a second week with a projected $9.3 million. 7 years 48 weeks ago via donnieyen

The Possession Scares The US Box Office

The Possession – Though the final figures won’t arrive until Tuesday because of the holiday (and news is predictably slow), new horror arrival The Possession comfortably won the weekend with a $17.7 million opening. Lawless also managed to do decent business, snagging a second place launch with $9.6 million stashed away in its moonshine fund and plenty of cash to spend on Hardingans. 7 years 48 weeks ago via brucelee

The Possession
Never underestimate horror films. They have a reliable group of fans who’ll rush out to the theaters as long as they deliver the scares. Most of them might not be good movies, but as long as the horror goods are there, the fans don’t care.

Critics Consensus: 'Lawless' Is Violent and Atmospheric – This week at the movies, we've got bootlegging brothers (Lawless, starring Shia LaBeouf and Tom Hardy), a bedeviled box (The Possession, starring Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Kyra Sedgwick), and some bewitching balloons (The Oogieloves in The Big Balloon Adventure, featuring Toni Braxton and Christopher Lloyd). Director John Hillcoat (The Road) has carved out a niche as a filmmaker skilled at wringing empathy from bleak and bloody scenarios. 7 years 49 weeks ago via brucelee
