Weekend Box Office Report: 'Guardians' and 'Ninja Turtles' Continued Their Dominance

Guardians of the Galaxy and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles spent another weekend at the top of the box office. The newcomers -- The November Man and As Above/So Below -- performed just as expected. After recapturing the top spot from Ninja Turtles last weekend, Guardians managed to remain there with a $22.9 million take over the four-day Labor Day holiday.

Review: Even With Standard Weapons 'The November Man' Still Excites What's that? Pierce Brosnan needs a new action franchise now, 12 years after his James Bond stint ended? There's a series of novels ripe for the action genre taking that would suit him perfectly? Let's make that deal. But The November Man, from the novels by Bill Granger, ends up being more than a run-of-the-mill spy thriller. Aided by some superb action directing from Roger Donaldson and a nice turn from its charismatic lead, the film trumps most of the recently standard "old guy in an action flick" turns we've gotten.

The dog days of summer are still upon us as evidenced by this week's releases. New in theaters this Labor Day weekend are Relativity Media's The November Man and Universal's As Above/So Below. Let's see how these two will fare at the box office. In The November Man, Pierce Brosnan plays an ex-CIA operative who is pulled back into the game to protect a witness (Olga Kurylenko) and work with his former protégé (Luke Bracey) to unravel a conspiracy within the spy agency.
