I’ve always thought the only types of films that can be re-released and still draw a sizable audience are Disney’s animated classics and George Lucas’ “Star Wars.” And the only film that can draw a huge audience is “Star Wars.” Disney’s animated classics have a loyal family following. “Star Wars” has a fanatic geek following.

The Lion King is performing so well that Disney announced today four more animated movies will get the 3D makeover for re-release in 2012 and 2013. Two are from Disney and two from Pixar. UPDATE Okay, so much for early prognostications. These box office reports based on mid-Friday returns aren't very accurate are they? I think, going forward, I'll write about the box office returns either on Saturdays or Sundays now.
