Last week’s new releases did relatively well at the box office this weekend—they at least made it to the top spots on the charts, which is more than can be said for some of the groups of releases of previous weeks.
Of the new releases, Jack the Giant Slayer fared the best at the theaters, making a sum of just over $28 million.

Once again, we have a week offering an interesting variety of films—an epic reimagining of a classic tale, a raunchy, drunken comedy, and a horror film sequel.
Opening today is another film putting a darker spin on an old tale—Jack the Giant Slayer. In this reimagined fable, an unwitting farm boy reignites an ancient war with a fearsome race of giants, and must fight to defend his kingdom from the eldritch threat.

Continuing where the first film left off, Nell Sweetzer (Ashley Bell) is found terrified and alone in rural Louisiana. Back in the relative safety of New Orleans, Nell realizes that she can't remember entire portions of the previous months—only that she is the last surviving member of her family. Just as Nell begins the difficult process of starting a new life, the evil force that once possessed her is back with other, unimaginably horrific plans that mean her last exorcism was just the beginning.
