Chris Rock in "Top Five"
Welcome to podcast #13. Binh and I discussed the new “Terminator: Genesys” trailer; neither of us liked it. There wasn’t much movement in the top 10 at the box office, other than the huge 50% drop that most films experienced. Family films like “Penguins of Madagascar” and “Big Hero 6” did worst, dropping around 60%.

Horrible Bosses 2
It’s a week late, but better late and never. Over Thanksgiving weekend (11/28-11/30), we had a couple turkeys. “Penguins of Madagascar” and “Horrible Bosses 2” both underperformed at the box office. “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1” retained its top position. I thought even though the reviews were less than good, “Horrible Bosses 2” would please its fan base, but I guess they didn’t care for seconds.

EOB Weekend Box Office Podcast 11/24/2014: "The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part I" Lower Than Expected

Jennifer Lawrence in "The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1"
Binh and I were expecting “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part I” to open as well as, if not slightly better than, the previous two films, both of which debuted in the $150M range. It did $122M, way below our predictions (or even the most conservative figures from the industry). We discuss why that happened. “Dumb and Dumber To” tumbled in its second week, continuing Jim Carrey’s recent slide at the box office. We debated over which of the three indies -- “Birdman,” “Foxcatcher,” and “The Theory of Everything” -- will eventually break out.

ign.com – The first teaser for The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1 has arrived, offering a brief glimpse at the uprising of a Katniss-lead rebellion against the Capitol. Although few members of the central cast actually feature in the teaser - Jennifer Lawrence herself speaks only two lines - it's nonetheless very stirring; the late Philip Seymour Hoffman certainly brings the gravitas as rebellion leader Plutarch Heavensbee. 5 years 11 weeks ago via jetli
