I hadn't heard of “The Artist” until the awards season started. Now, it’s the heavy favorite to win the top prize at the Oscars. That’s pretty good for a black-and-white silent film that had made less than a million at the box office before racking up award after award.

Film Independent Spirit Awards: Complete List of Winners – As expected, "The Artist" dominated Saturday's Independent Spirit Awards, winning four awards for best feature, director, actor and cinematography. The drama was getting "The Artist" creative team via police escort to the event from a delayed flight from Paris, where the film won six Cesars.
