The Amazing Spider-Man
Sony has dated The Sinister Six, The Amazing Spider-Man spin-off that will be centered on a group of villains, for November 11, 2016. The studio has also pushed The Amazing Spider-Man 3 back to 2018 and leaves The Amazing Spider-Man 4 release to be determined later. It is unclear why Sony would delay its flagship superhero franchise for the spin-off, but the box office performance of The Amazing Spider-Man 2 may give us a clue.

Or that's what "a senior source at Columbia Pictures" told the UK tabloid The Daily Star (via Dark Horizons).

Garfield To Do Four More "Spider-Man" Films? – Both Andrew Garfield and director Marc Webb have previously indicated that 2016's "The Amazing Spider-Man 3" will likely be their last outings with the franchise. A new report in The Daily Star however indicates that at least Garfield may be sticking around for a bit longer. The British tabloid's "senior source at Columbia Pictures," claims 30-year-old Garfield is currently contracted to make two more films for release in 2015 and 2016 (what that 2015 film is it doesn't say).

Marvel Thinks Peter Parker Should Be the Only Cinematic Spider-Man

5:51 PM 4/30/2014 by Jeff Giles
Even back in the good old days when Peter Parker was the only Spider-Man the Marvel comics universe had to offer, the character was still such big business that he anchored at least two ongoing titles at any given moment -- and now, between Marvel's Ultimate universe and the various future/alternate Spider-Men swinging around different timelines and dimensions, it can be hard to keep track of which Web-Head is under the mask at any given moment.

VENOM and SINISTER SIX Spinoffs Set To Arrive Before THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 4 – In a recent interview with Den Of Geek,Matt Tolmach told them that will we be getting the Venom and Sinister Six spinoffs before The Amazing Spider-Man 4. "Before we know what we do with Spider-Man 4, we're going to do Sinister Six, Venom and Spider-Man 3," he explained."There is going to be a lot of crossover in those movies. So we're just not at Spider-Man 4, because we still have a whole other Spider-Man movie and two other movies. 6 years 8 weeks ago via brucelee

Marc Webb Will Not Direct Franchise After ‘Amazing Spider-Man 3′ – It looks like Marc Webb is ready to leave the Spidey universe. Webb, who helped relaunch the franchise in 2012 after Sam Raimi’s trilogy starring Tobey Maguire, told The Daily Beast that he won’t return to direct any more movies after the third installment. That means there’s at least one more “Amazing Spider-Man” movie that... 6 years 11 weeks ago via theothersenhman

Marc Webb Won't Direct 'The Amazing Spider-Man 4'

Superhero franchises have an obvious appeal -- for actors and filmmakers alike -- but they also seem to be the kind of thing that, with relatively few exceptions, a star or director needs to move on from relatively quickly, and three movies seems to be a pretty common stopping point for most people.

Marc Webb Won't Direct 'Spider-Man 4,' James Mangold To Shoot ‘Wolverine 2’ After ‘X-Men: Apocalypse’ & More – Were it not for the encouragement of Sony chief Amy Pascal, Marc Webb revealed at SXSW last week, “The Amazing Spider-Man” and its upcoming two sequels would’ve passed right by the “(500) Days of Summer” director’s path as “the stupidest thing” he’d ever heard. As vibrant a studio playground as the Marvel franchise has been for Webb the last few years, 6 years 11 weeks ago via theothersenhman

What's Popping: Spider-Man, Venom & Sinister Six, 'Indiana Jones', 'Naked Gun', 'Jack Reacher 2'

If Sony could, the studio would release a Spider-Man every year because superhero movies are making tons of coins these days. To fill in the years when Spider-Man is not on the big screen, Sony is developing movies centered on other characters in the Spider-Man universe like Venom and The Sinister Six.
