New in Theaters: ‘The Expendables 3,’ ‘The Giver,’ ‘Let’s Be Cops’

The Giver
This weekend brings an interesting mix of new releases to theaters—we have some tongue-in-cheek mindless action, some young-adult dystopian literature-turned-film, and a risqué buddy cop comedy (sort of). The good news: a wide spectrum of genres that would normally attract lots of moviegoers. The bad news: not one of the new releases is getting good reviews, which may scare any moviegoers away.

Review: 'The Expendables 3' is the Most Brainless Fun of the Series The Expendables 3 is so adorable you'd want to pinch its little cheeks if the average age of the crew weren't higher than 50. Once again lead by Sylvester Stallone's Barney Ross it's a new mission, a new team, and a new attitude, or so the tagline for this latest film implies. That new attitude must have something to do with entertainment, since The Expendables 3, for its been-there-done-that narrative and paint-by-numbers action set-pieces, ends up as the most enjoyable.

It didn't used to be that way: Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger, members of the Action Hero Hall Of Fame, co-owned the eighties, and each of them battled for supremacy, even if it meant taking the next "hot project" despite the fact that it looked like a career death sentence. 18 weeks 22 hours ago via jetli
