When Robert Downey, Jr. sent film sites around the world into a frenzy last week by intimating -- and then backpedaling very quickly -- the idea that he might be in talks for Iron Man 4, we held off on writing up any of the action, mainly because it seemed like Marvel might have an actual announcement hiding up its sleeve.

Review: Thor: The Dark World (Just Looking For A Place To Hang His Hammer)

Chris Hemsworth returns as the Nordic god of thunder and patron saint of linebackers in the sequel to Marvel’s Thor, unimaginatively titled Thor: The Dark World. Viking bloodlust is a little too much for a tween comic book hero so Hemsworth plays his defender of worlds as a good-natured marauder.

Robert Redford
It sounded like one of those wild rumors that's just plausible enough to trick people into thinking it's true, but those recent reports regarding Robert Redford joining the cast of Captain America: The Winter Soldier were actually based in reality -- and it sounds like he had a pretty compelling reason to sign on.

Robert Redford
During its relatively brief time as a standalone studio, Marvel has developed a reputation for wooing seemingly incongruous talent for its films (like, say, getting Kenneth Branagh to direct Thor). Which is to say we shouldn't be surprised by any news that comes out of the House of Ideas' casting department -- but it's still hard not to be shocked by today's reports that Robert Redford is in talks for Captain America:

Captain America 2
Marvel's recent successes at the box office would be impressive enough if all they were doing was churning out well-made superhero movies -- but without getting too hyperbolic about it, their best films haven't just redefined the genre's commercial possibilities, they've also redrawn its artistic parameters.
