Weekend Box Office Report: 'Oblivion:' One Release, One Top Spot

3:20 PM 4/21/2013 by Logan Falk
The weekend was very kind to last week’s one and only new release, Oblivion. Otherwise, the charts have remained more or less static since last weekend. Oblivion did quite well in the box office, making over $38.1 million; while this is at the bottom end of its predicted range for its opening weekend gross, it’s still a respectable sum, and the film can probably expect similarly impressive numbers in later weeks.

Both of last week’s new releases did very well in the box office this weekend—even despite the arguably vast disparity in quality between the two releases. Making the top of the charts is 42, which outdid its modest expectations (even for a heartwarming based-on-a-true-story yarn), earning revenues in the ballpark (ha) of $27.2 million on its opening weekend.

Scary Movie 5
Today introduces two new releases that could not be more incongruous—one is a heartwarming based-on-a-true-story film about overcoming adversity, standing by what you believe in (even if it’s insanely unpopular), letting your actions speak louder than your words, etc. The other is the fifth installment in a B-list comedy franchise that simply refuses to die.

What do the critics have to say? 9 years 34 weeks ago via jackiechan

A Naked Gun reboot? Scary stuff – Either David Zucker is trying to distract us from his latest turkey or we're all staring down the barrel of another Naked Gun movie. Trying to sell an inferior product to a sceptical public is no fun. Faced with this task, it's common for people in the movie business to try and distract us by claiming they are reviving a long-lost greatest hit.To this day, Kiefer Sutherland's strategy for promoting his current series Touch is to bang on relentlessly about how he wants to make a 24 movie. 9 years 34 weeks ago via donnieyen

'Scary Movie 5' Trailer Targets 'Mama' And 'Evil Dead' Remake

Scary Movie 5 – The "Scary Movie" franchise and the parody comedy genre in general have hit some hard times. That's why it's worth noting that for "Scary Movie 5," they're trying something different.
