There aren't very many major characters in the first Blade Runner. You've got Harrison Ford as the Replicant hunter, Deckard, and then a small handful of people, most of whom don't survive the movie very long. As massive as Ridley Scott's movie is in its scope, it's actually a rather small story. If the cast list for Blade Runner 2 is any indication, however, things are definitely going to be bigger this time around.

Director Denis Villeneuve’s highly anticipated sequel to Sir Ridley Scott’s sci-fi classic Blade Runner is beginning to gather pace, in what’s been a particularly long and drawn-out development process.
Blade Runner 2 (as the film is unofficially titled) has enlisted the services of original Blade Runner lead Harrison Ford (returning as Rick Deckard), as well as franchise newcomers Robin Wright, Ryan Gosling, Ana de Armas, and Dave Bautista in key roles that have yet to be revealed.

Blade Runner 2 conjures up a combination of excitement, curiosity, and dismay for many fans of Ridley Scott’s original net-noir masterpiece. The 30-plus year wait for a sequel to the celebrated film will be over shortly, though. The Scott Free produced, Denis Villeneuve (Sicario) directed film is scheduled to begin filming sometime in July.

Blade Runner 2: Dave Bautista (Guardians of the Galaxy, above) shared a photo via social media that prompted many to conclude that he will be appearing in the sequel to Blade Runner. In the photo, he can be seen with an origami unicorn, very similar to one that appeared in Ridley Scott's 1982 original. Casting is currently ongoing for the sequel, with production expected to get underway in July, targeting a release date of January 12, 2018. [Collider]

Denis Villeneuve is set to begin filming Blade Runner 2 this summer, and as pre-production picks up steam, so do the casting announcements for the highly-anticipated project— which means this thing is absolutely happening. Robin Wright has joined Ryan Gosling and Harrison Ford in the long-awaited sequel to Ridley Scott’s sci-fi classic (and arguable masterpiece, depending on which version you’re watching), snatching up one of three major female roles in the film.

Recently it was announced that Neill Blomkamp’s Alien sequel was tabled in favor of the second chapter of Ridley Scott’s Prometheus series. Scheduled to start shooting in 2016, the film will see the return of lead actors Noomi Rapace and Michael Fassbender.
