Wild opens this weekend, heralding the triumphant return (and likely second Oscar nomination) of Reese Witherspoon. It’s actually only the highest profile of three performances by the actress this fall. She’s also in The Good Lie, which opened in October, and Paul Thomas Anderson’s upcoming Inherent Vice. As if that weren’t enough, she also produced Gone Girl. It’s a fortuitous few months, especially given what many consider a years-long fallow period.

“The Good Lie,” the story of three Sudanese refugees who come to the U.S. and try to make a life in the modern world, debuted softly in its limited release by Warner Bros.
Co-starring Reese Witherspoon as the strong-minded woman assigned to help them, “The Good Lie” brought in $935,000 from 461 theaters nationwide. That's a $2,028 per-screen average for the drama directed by Philippe Falardeau.
The good news was the rare “A+” CinemaScore given the film by its mature-skewing audiences, of which 85 percent were over the age of 25.

Little is known about and even less has been seen from Paul Thomas Anderson‘s upcoming movie, “Inherent Vice.”
The first glimpse of the film that reunites Reese Witherspoon and “Walk the Line” co-star Joaquin Phoenix gives a preview of the normally modern actress donning an authentic 70s style, in a preview photo released by the Los Angeles Times on Wednesday.
Witherspoon plays Deputy D.A. Penny Kimball, whose hair is a dead giveaway for when this movie takes place.
