Queen Of The Desert News

Werner Herzog’s Queen of the Desert will finally make its way to North America in 2017 and (naturally) there’s a new trailer trumpeting the historical drama’s arrival. The film, released in Germany way back yonder in the simpler days of 2015, features Nicole Kidman as British traveler/writer/archaeologist/spy/explorer/political officer Gertrude Bell. Here’s the bluffer’s guide to what the motion picture offers: Gertrude Bell (Kidman) chafes against the stifling rigidity of life in turn-of-the-century England, leaving it behind for a chance to travel to Tehran.

"It is something that you in your world would never understand…" Atlas Distribution has debuted a new US trailer for Werner Herzog's Queen of the Desert, starring Nicole Kidman as the legendary Gertrude Bell, who was an important figure in Middle East relations in the early 1900s. This isn't the first trailer we've featured, however the other trailer was an international version, this new one has a much more epic, Lawrence of Arabia-esque feel. Which is what they're really selling it like, with Robert Pattinson playing T.E.

Watch: Werner Herzog's 'Queen of the Desert' International Trailer "Every step in the desert, life and fire claim me… And I'm consumed." An international trailer has recently debuted for Werner Herzog's Queen of the Desert, the German filmmaker's latest fictional feature film, about Gertrude Bell. Not to be confused with The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert, this "Queen of the Desert" was a very well-educated, vivacious, ambitious woman who became an important political player in the Middle East in the 1920s, helping establish the Hashemite dynasties in what is today Jordan as well as in Iraq.

The first, long-awaited trailer for Werner Herzog’s Queen of the Desert opens sort of like a more gentle Mad Max: Fury Road, with Nicole Kidman explaining that her world is “life and fire.” It’s the true story of Gertrude Bell, a woman so suffocated by civil life that she strikes out into the desert of Tehran in the 1920s, where she becomes integral in shaping the politics of the Middle East. After that lost long weekend of lucid dreams and crumbling sanity spent rewatching half his catalogue for our Werner Herzog Retrospective I might have made some pronouncement like: Werner Herzog may have made a few bad films, but he has never made an uninteresting one. He comes damn close, however, with "Queen of the Desert," which does not deserve the outright trashing that can be felt brewing in the Berlinale air, but also can't be classed as anything other than a disappointment.

Berlin Film Festival Adds Werner Herzog’s QUEEN OF THE DESERT Starring Robert Pattinson and Nicole Kidman The Berlin International Film Festival already has quite the lineup, but the list continues to grow.  Another batch of official selections was just announced and while there are loads of promising projects in the mix, the standout is Werner Herzog’s Queen of the Desert.  The Gertrude Bell biopic was in development for years before finally going into production in late 2013.  Nicole Kidman leads as Bell, an “explorer, writer, archaeologist and attaché for the British Empire who is credited with helping to catalyze the formation of the Middle East at the dawn of the 20th century.” Hit the jum

fb.indiewire.com – It seemed like a no brainer: Production had wrapped, there seemed to be plenty of time to finish it up, and considering they have a new theater named after the guy, Werner Herzog's "Queen Of The Desert" looked like it was fated to be an inevitable part of the Telluride Film Festival when it's announced at the end of the month (unlike other fests, they only unveil their slate on the opening day). 7 years 10 weeks ago via brucelee
