8:31 PM 10/6/2013 by Logan Falk
Gravity
This weekend is a story in exceeding expectations for this last Friday’s batch of new releases—the highly-rated Gravity earned above even its high projected gross for the weekend, and the slightly less highly-rated Runner Runner somehow managed to earn below its meager predicted range.

Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2
Although the film didn’t quite reach the astronomical height of earnings it was predicted to attain, there was little question that Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 would sit comfortably at the top of the charts. The results for the rest of this weekend’s releases were a little more interesting, however.

Prisoners
Despite its star-studded cast, it’s difficult to imagine that the dance film Battle of the Year would do much more than meet its rather small projected gross for the weekend. Battle of the Year
Most weekends, the films coming out (if there’s more than one, that is) are fairly different, presumably to attract a larger audience to the box office. Some weekends, this difference is so large as to be almost hilarious: this weekend, which promises a Taken-flavored revenge film and a quirky flick about an Olympic-level dance competition, is one of them.

Telluride: No 'Prisoners' Hugh Jackman Or Jake Gyllenhaal Until Toronto

deadline.com – Also at the Telluride Film Festival picnic I ran into Prisoners director Denis Villeneuve and its producers Alcon’s Andrew Kosove and Kira Davis. The trio were anxiously awaiting the festival’s reaction to their incredibly tense thriller. I had speculated pic would be a surprise entry here and indeed it as now been officially announced as one of Friday night’s screenings. 4 years 46 weeks ago via theothersenhman
