Weekend Box Office Report: ‘Lego’ Staying Strong

With the mediocre (at best) quality of our new releases, it’s little surprise that the lauded Lego Movie is sitting easily and comfortably at the top of the charts once more. Since there are no surprises, it’s a pretty short report this weekend, so let’s get to it.

New in Theaters: 'Pompeii,' '3 Days to Kill'

This weekend is looking pretty grim for moviegoers expecting quality new releases; we’ve got two new films that were not super well-received, and both are fairly dark, so there’s little hope for some mindless laughs. If they’re looking for some plot-less, hardcore CGI action sequences, though, they will not be disappointed.

The film stars Kit Harington (Game of Thrones) as an enslaved Celtic gladiator named Milo who falls in love with a noblewoman (Emily Browning) on the eve of a massive volcanic eruption that destroys Pompeii, an event that also brings him face-to-face with the man (Kiefer Sutherland) who slaughtered his family years earlier.
