Review: Lovelace ("Angel" in a Centerfold)

4:56 PM 8/5/2013 by Sara Vizcarrondo
Fame isn’t free and the toll it takes is a subject entirely elided by Lovelace, a biopic about America’s first (and perhaps only) porn super star, Linda Lovelace. In the early 70s she became a household name by starring in Deep Throat, which unlike most porn films developed a mainstream reputation, eventually luring audiences so famous their patronage was newsworthy; paparazzi caught Jackie O buying her ticket concealed with a scarf.

Woody Allen’s breezy, glamorous Manhattan takes it on the chin in Blue Jasmine, his first film to be set in San Francisco and possibly the first to see New York as a place to flee.

You've really got to work to make a biopic about the star of Deep Throat that feels in no way titillating, but let's give directors Rob Epstein and Jeffrey Friedman a round of applause, because that seems to be exactly what they've created with Lovelace -- at least based on the evidence of the movie's first full-length trailer.

Kurt Russell, Peter Sarsgaard, Richard Jenkins and Jennifer Carpenter Join Horror Western BONE TOMAHAWK from Debut Director S. Craig Zahler

Kurt Russell – Some interesting casting has shaped up for debut director S. Craig Zahler's horror Western, Bone Tomahawk. It looks like Kurt Russell (The Thing), Peter Sarsgaard (Green Lantern), Richard Jenkins (The Cabin in the Woods) and Jennifer Carpenter (Dexter) are all on board. Bone Tomahawk "follows a sheriff (Russell), a gunslinger, a befuddled oldster (Jenkins) and a cowboy (Sarsgaard) as they attempt to rescue a group of captives (including Carpenter) from a band of cannibalistic troglodytes." If you ask me, there just aren't enough movies with troglodytes these days. 7 years 30 weeks ago via jetli
