Andrew Garfield in "The Amazing Spider-Man 2"
I wasn’t a fan of rebooting the “Spider-Man” franchise so early, but Sony Pictures had to do it to keep the rights from reverting back to Marvel after they couldn’t work out a deal with director Sam Raimi and star Tobey Maguire to return for more sequels.

Amazing Spider-Man 2
Remember when studios tried to hide as many details as possible about their upcoming major movies? Sony doesn't, at least not where Amazing Spider-Man 2 is concerned -- and their latest information leak concerns the appearance of one of Spidey's most persistently nefarious villains.

Review: Saving Mr. Banks (A Mouse House Full of Daddy Issues)

5:36 PM 12/30/2013 by Sara Vizcarrondo
Saving Mr. Banks is a surprisingly apologetic celebration of Papa Walt and the herculean effort required to bring Mary Poppins to screen. The drama escapes whatever litigious truthiness is basic to the situation (Walt pestered the rights owner to submission) and somehow writers Kelly Marcel and Sue Smith wrestle this into a story about recovering from damaging parents.

Review: 12 Years a Slave (Bait and Switch)

8:10 AM 10/21/2013 by Sara Vizcarrondo
Based on the memoir by Solomon Northup, 12 Years a Slave begins in upstate New York, 1841. Northup (Chiwetel Ejiofor), a fiddler by trade, follows two men to the nation’s capitol for work and is drugged and sold into slavery. Within eyeshot of the White House his captors whip his whitest shirt to bloody shreds before giving him the dull flax of an owned man.

Director Steve McQueen and star Chiwetel Ejiofor Talk About 12 Years a Slave

8:22 PM 10/11/2013 by Sara Vizcarrondo
12 Years a Slave is Steve McQueen’s third directorial effort and the contemporary artist turned filmmaker has done nothing but hit them out the park. With such a strong body of work behind him, MoviesWithButter asked, “Now that you’re established and your work has the attention of a major international audience, did you feel at all obligated to tackle the subject of slavery?” A black man and an Englishman, McQueen said, “No, it was an incredible story.
