Critics Consensus: 'New Year's Eve' Drops the Ball

rottentomatoes.com – This week at the movies, we've got a star-studded celebration (New Year's Eve, starring Hilary Swank and Halle Berry) and adventures in babysitting (The Sitter, starring Jonah Hill and Ari Graynor). What do the critics have to say? Director Garry Marshall certainly has a yen for celebrity-populated, holiday-centric comedies, but critics say his latest, New Year's Eve, is even weaker than the thematically similar (and critically panned) Valentine's Day, stranding a terrific cast in a thinly plotted, schmaltzy confection. 8 years 25 weeks ago via jetli

I saw a glimpse of this trailer on tv today and the first thought was "what the heck??" A million famous actors in a bunch of short clips about an overly glamorized and romanticized New Year's eve in NYC? Oh, come on! I'm not even going to start with how starkly different that is from the reality of being in NYC on New Year's eve. The Valentine's Day people obviously has a formula for putting a bunch of top tiered actors in a romantic comedy during a major holiday, and bada-bang-bada-boom, a money maker. Let's ring in another year.   More »

How Do You Fit 18 Actors On a Poster? 'New Year's Eve' Knows!

feedproxy.google.com – The horror…the horror… The best part about this poster for New Year’s Eve is either that it features all of the names and pictures of the actors, but not in the same order, or that the catchphrase “Let The Countdown Begin” lets us know that it’s a Doomsday Movie. Garry Marshall, who should be ashamed of himself for directing Valentine’s Day, proves once and for all that he owes some serious men down at the race track by stepping up to direct this sequel which seeks to squeeze even less screen time out for even more famous faces. 8 years 33 weeks ago via donnieyen
