Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters
As badly as this last week’s new releases were received, they made a fairly good showing of themselves this weekend.

Box Office: 'Hansel and Gretel' No. 1 With So-So $19 Mil; 'Movie 43' Bombs With $5 Mil – Crime-thriller "Parker" -- pairing Jason Statham with Jennifer Lopez -- is likewise D.O.A. as a glut of R-rated films make life tough at the domestic box office...Paramount and MGM's action-comedy Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters topped the weekend chart with a $19 million opening but underperformed despite star Jeremy Renner and the upcharge for a 3D ticket.

Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters
It’s looking to be a pretty dismal for new releases this weekend: three different new films, and not a one of them well-received. One of these ill-conceived releases is Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters, another film putting a new spin on an old tale. Here, fairy-tale children Hansel and Gretel survive their famous encounter with a witch and grow up to face several more monstrosities, and contend with the horrors of their past.

Critics Consensus: Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters Not Screened -- Guess the Tomatometer! – This week at the movies, we've got killer siblings (Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters, starring Jeremy Renner and Gemma Arterton), an avenging crook (Parker, starring Jason Statham and Jennifer Lopez), and a smorgasbord of comedy vignettes (Movie 43, starring Kate Winslet and Hugh Jackman). What do the critics have to say? 9 years 29 weeks ago via theothersenhman

The trailer for Movie 43 is so disgusting and crude I have to write about it. It’s a trailer that is disturbing and offensive in every way; and what’s saving it from causing every rights group to strike against it is probably its honesty. The film tells the viewer exactly what to expect and has no hidden agenda about its outrageous and fowl nature.   More »
