When Robert Downey, Jr. sent film sites around the world into a frenzy last week by intimating -- and then backpedaling very quickly -- the idea that he might be in talks for Iron Man 4, we held off on writing up any of the action, mainly because it seemed like Marvel might have an actual announcement hiding up its sleeve.

'Iron Man 4' Isn't Happening Anytime Soon

Marvel started its era of box office domination with the original Iron Man movie, and even though Robert Downey, Jr. might be the only actor who's ever managed to successfully hold the studio over a barrel in terms of movie star-sized salary demands, he's also been worth every penny -- and while Iron Man 2 and Iron Man 3 failed to recapture the magic of the first installment, they also made gobs and gobs of money, so there's been every reason to expect another sequel.

Guardians of the Galaxy
With the insane, many-month long anticipation of Marvel’s latest film in the Avengers-driven story arc, it is no surprise whatsoever that Guardians of the Galaxy had no trouble whatsoever bringing in incredible earnings, and subsequently conquering the box office. Cap 3
Ever since it was announced that Captain America 3 and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice would be sharing the same crowded release date on May 6, 2016, we've all been wondering who'd blink first -- Marvel, hoping to avoid sequel fatigue with the third installment in its Captain America franchise, or Warner Bros., seeking to dodge having a Marvel-sized bite taken out of the most important release on its calendar for the year.

James Gunn
Marvel has done a pretty solid job of porting over the expansiveness of its print universe onto the big screen, but they've still merely hinted at the edges of that potential. That sounds like it might be changing, however, when Guardians of the Galaxy arrives in theaters next month.

Marvel chief Kevin Feige hinted last month that the studio had already picked an actor to play intergalactic bad guy Thanos, but said they weren't ready to make an announcement just yet. Well, ready or not, here comes Latino Review with the scoop: If the site's sources are on the money, Josh Brolin is Marvel's man.

X-Men: Days of Future Past
It’s not uncommon for a particularly successful film to earn above and beyond its predicted earnings; it is rare, however, for a film to earn a full $30 million higher than it was predicted to. This weekend saw such a phenomenon, as moviegoers stormed the box office to see X-Men:

New in Theaters: ‘X-Men: Days of Future Past,’ ‘Blended’

X-Men: Days of Future Past
This weekend may see something spectacular happen—the Phoenix-like rebirth (pun only slightly intended) of a franchise with a shaky past, as Marvel takes a potential huge step forward with the X-Men series. To make sure this weekend isn’t too exciting, however, this phenomenon is tempered by the release of another Adam Sandler comedy.
