Chinese Box Office: "Finding Mr. Right" Nudges "Die Hard 5" Off Top Slot; "Ip Man: Final Fight" Disappoints

In last week's report, I was expecting "Ip Man: Final Fight" to do well enough to at least place second at last week's box office (3/18-3/24), but that didn't happen. It debuted at fifth place with just $1.17M, not even good enough to beat the three-week-old martial arts comedy "Princess and Seven Kung Fu Masters."
Chinese Box office: "Die Hard 5" & "Resident Evil 5" Debuted Strong; "Princess" & "Upside Down" Held Up Surprisingly Well

"A Good Day to Die Hard" and "Resident Evil: Retribution" debuted in China last week, and the results for the fifth entries of both franchises were solid. Both films have underperformed in the States: "Retribution" grossed $42.3M last fall, about $20M less than the previous installment; "Die Hard 5" will likely finish around $70M, about $60M less than its predecessor.

In my previous Chinese box office report, I wrote that Stephen Chow's "Journey to the West: Conquering the Demons" would get close, but not beat "Lost in Thailand" for the record of highest-grossing Chinese film of all time. Huayi Brothers, the company behind "Journey to the West," apparently agrees with me.

He’s like the smart boy’s un-caped crusader in the hard times of the French Revolution.

ARGO is solid but problematic; Django Unchained is a mess of errant genres; Les Mis is bloated, bombastic and juvenile (which should make it Best Pic frontrunner); and AMOUR is already up for Best Foreign Film so why vote that?
rss.feedsportal.com – The 2013 EE British Academy Film Awards took place tonight in a rain-drenched London, but even the best efforts of Mother Nature couldn't dampen the spirits of Ben Affleck and the Argo team as they took Best Picture, Best Director and Best Editing. The biggest winner, numerically, was Les Miserables, which took four awards for Supporting Actress, Production Design, Sound and Make-Up & Hair. 2 years 2 weeks ago via jackiechan

Um...I'm live-blogging the Golden Goldens because Binh told me he doesn't get NBC where he lives. Whatever. Well, we tag-teamed live-blogging the Oscars last year and got a huge traffic boost, so that's my reason doing the same with the Golden Globes this time. Just like last year, it's all a last minute thing.
