"Fantastic Four" Debuts on Rotten Tomatoes with 12%

Apparently, no one told the critics that there’s a review embargo on “Fantastic Four” until it opens this Friday. On Rotten Tomatoes, over twenty critics have ignored the embargo so far. And the early word is terrible. At 12% -- and it’s still early -- it’s even worse than the poorly received originals.

Miles Teller was at a press conference today for his new movie Whiplash, the Sundance, Cannes, TIFF and New York Film Festival hit. In the film, Teller plays a jazz drummer who endures physical and emotional trauma for his art. The film’s theme reminded him of an injury he sustained practicing his art, playing Reed Richards in the upcoming Fantastic Four reboot. “When I was filming The Fantastic Four, I took a big chunk out of my finger,” Teller said.

The August release schedule has its moments here and there, but generally speaking, that month is an annual cinematic graveyard -- not necessarily the place where you want to stake your claim to a superhero franchise, in other words.
