Neill Blomkamp’s scifi thriller “Elysium” debuted in China last week to a solid $11.8M after four days, according EntGroup. The Matt Damon starrer has taken in $85.4M domestically and $212M worldwide. Produced for an expensive $115M (and millions more for marketing), it’ll need home video sales to get into the black because studios only get 40-50% of the box office revenue.

The 3D re-release of Steven Spielberg’s “Jurassic Park” topped the chart again in China with another $17M, upping its total to a gigantic $50M. That’s better than the $45M it chomped up from the U.S. back in April. At its current rate, it has a chance to get into the $70M range, which would make it the third highest grossing American film in that region this year.

Last week, I mentioned how the 3D re-release of Steven Spielberg’s “Jurassic Park” in China will eventually push the film past $1B in total worldwide gross.
Well, it only took six days. The sci-fi thriller debuted with a massive $6.6M when it opened on August 20th. As of Sunday, six days after its opening, “Jurassic Park” took in $28.8M, pushing its worldwide total to $1B.
Thanks to China, "Jurassic Park" Will Soon Join the $1B Club

Chinese audiences just can’t get enough of 3D.
Before its release in China, Steven Spielberg’s “Jurassic Park” needed another $30M or so to get to a worldwide gross of $1B. Based on its performance on opening day in China, looks like it’ll get there in a week or so.

This week brings an interesting combination of scares and thrills to theaters—some old, some new (well, re-done, a least), some jumps and suspense, some blood and gore.
Entering theaters this week is a revamped classic from the mind of Steven Spielberg:
Jurassic Park 3D. The famous tale, based on Michael Crichton’s scifi/suspense novel, returns to the big screen with its famous CGI enhanced with the 3D experience.
