Rodney Rothman, one of the three credited writer for 22 Jump Street, has been hired by Sony Pictures to pen the script for third Jump Street movie, according to Deadline. Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill are both expect back to reprise their roles and are producing the movie with Phil Lord, Christopher Miller, and Neal Mortiz.

This may be the first time in history that a highly-anticipated (not to mention highly-rated) animated film was topped in earnings by a fellow new release—and an R-rated comedy, to boot. Still, despite the less varied audience, 22 Jump Street managed to top the charts.

This looks to be yet another busy weekend—both new releases are sequels that have been long-awaited by fans of the original films for months on end, and both films have been receiving excellent reviews. Additionally, the films will attract very different audiences, so droves of moviegoers will flock to theaters this weekend.
