After Sony canceled the comedy due to terrorist threats against theaters set to show The Interview on Christmas day, it became the most talked about movie of the holiday season. Independent theaters rallied to show the film in the name of free speech, and Sony decided to give fans an early treat by releasing it on VOD this past Christmas Eve. The Interview has had quite a storied path to release. Originally set to debut in theaters this past October, it was pulled so that it wouldn't correspond with North Korea's Party Foundation Day, as the film depicts the assassination of the country's leader Kim Jong-un. It was moved to Christmas day, but then pulled again because of a terrorist threat against theaters set to show the movie. But now, The Interview will screen in over 300 independent theaters across the country.

Ticket sales for “The Interview” shot through the roof Wednesday at many of the roughly 300 independent theaters that will be showing the Seth Rogen-James Franco comedy on Christmas Day, with many reporting sellouts and booming sales over the holiday period.
“All of our Thursday shows are sold out and the weekend sales look really strong too,” said Christian Parkes, chief brand officer at the Alamo Drafthouse chain, which is showing “The Interview” in all 19 of its theaters.
“It’s selling as well as any movie ever has, and it’s not just us.

It's not quite the end result anyone was expecting, but Sony will be releasing Seth Rogen and James Franco's "The Interview" in limited release on Christmas Day. After critical calls from all corners, including from the White House, about their decision on postponing the release (though to be fair, it's hard to schedule a movie when every chain balks at screening it), Sony changed their minds and starting tomorrow, select locations around the country will have the movie waiting under the cinematic Christmas tree to be opened. But where can you see it?
