The Battle Against Skynet Rages On In Epic New Clip From TERMINATOR GENISYS The beginning of Terminator: Genisys, the first of three planned films that Paramount hopes will relaunch the beloved sci-fi franchise, is set in 2029, when the Future War is raging and a group of human rebels has the evil artificial-intelligence system Skynet on the ropes. John Connor (Dawn of the Planet of the Apes’ Jason Clarke) is the leader of the resistance, and Kyle Reese (Divergent‘s Jai Courtney) is his loyal soldier, raised in the ruins of post apocalyptic California.

Doctor Who Star Matt Smith Joins 'Terminator: Genesis'

Matt Smith, who plays Doctor Who in the eponymous TV series, has been added to the cast of Terminator: Genesis. Smith and body builder Aaron Williamson, who is rumored to play a younger T-800, are the latest to join the production, which is currently filming. According to the press release, Smith will play a new character who has "a strong connection to John Connor." Deadline hears that Smith's role will be more prominent in the second and third movie.
