Ice Cube News
EXCLUSIVE: MGM is reviving its Barbershop franchise. The film company is negotiating a mid-seven-figure deal with Ice Cube to reprise his role as the catalyst for Barbershop 3. They are about to start talking to writers and I’m told the hope is to re-enlist Cedric the Entertainer and Queen Latifah as well.

In the five weeks since it hit theaters, the Ice Cube-Kevin Hart comedy Ride Along has grossed nearly $120 million against a $25 million budget, and you know what that means: Universal wants a sequel. In fact, the studio started moving on a follow-up last year, when it signed Phil Hay and Matt Manfredi to write a script, but now Variety reports they've started making deals with the on-screen talent.
EXCLUSIVE: It was inevitable after the huge success of Ride Along that Universal Pictures executives would be salivating to get the sequel together. Tim Story will direct Ride Along 2 with Ice Cube and Kevin Hart are closing to reprise their roles as the quick-witted security guard (Hart) who has his eye on his partner’s (Cube’s) sister.

This weekend offers quite the variety of films—an action-thriller that jumpstarts a long-dormant franchise, a campy cop buddy comedy, a zany animated family film, and a found-footage horror flick. Pretty much none of it was well-received, but if you’re not picky, there’s something for everybody out in theaters this weekend.
Ice Cube (James) and Kevin Hart (Ben) lead the lineup in Ride Along from director Tim Story. When a fast talking guy joins his girlfriend’s brother, a hot tempered cop to patrol the streets of Atlanta, he gets entangled in the officers latest case. Now to prove that he deserves his future bride, he must survive the most insane 24 hours of his life.
