The Wolverine
While its weekend gross fell pretty far short of its projected range, the latest Marvel film made a respectable amount of money over the weekend—certainly enough to place it well ahead of the other two new releases (this is hardly an accomplishment, however, as one is an indie film and the other opened in just enough theaters to qualify as a wide release).

The Conjuring
Most of this weekend’s films made a fair showing of themselves—some certainly more than others—but there was one new release that truly outdid itself, and soared to the top of the charts: The Conjuring.

Weekend Box Office Report: 'Despicable Me 2' Can't Be Beat

6:50 PM 7/14/2013 by Logan Falk
Despicable Me 2
It seems that ill-contrived, raunchy humor and enormous, juiced-up fighting robots just can’t beat the appeal of a solid animated film—especially when that film is full of the antics of the infamous yellow minions. This weekend, the charts were ruled once again by Despicable Me 2.

Box Office Report: 'Despicable Me 2,' 'Grown Ups 2' Trounce 'Pacific Rim' – Guillermo del Toro's tentpole marks Hollywood's latest big-budget disappointment; "Fruitvale Station" opens big at the specialty box office just as the George Zimmerman verdict is handed down. 7 years 14 weeks ago via jackiechan

Box Office Report: 'Pacific Rim' Slows; 'Grown Ups 2' and 'Despicable Me 2' Vie for No. 1 – Guillermo del Toro's big-budget tentpole is now headed for a third-place finish despite costing $190 million or more to produce; "Fruitvale" scores strong opening numbers at the specialty box office. 7 years 14 weeks ago via theothersenhman

Review: 'Grown Ups 2' (I Believe In Jobs)

2:47 PM 7/12/2013 by Sara Vizcarrondo
For a film about facing irrelevance, Grown Ups 2 isn't fighting for a place in the race. Lenny (writer/producer Adam Sandler) has happily transitioned to his hometown following the move at the end of Grown Ups. Chris Rock is a cable guy, Kevin James fixes cars, Rob Schneider is missing and David Spade is an aging lothario in a confusingly large house.

Box Office Report: Early Friday Returns Show 'Pacific Rim,' 'Grown Ups 2' in Tight Race – Box office observers are divided as to whether Guillermo del Toro's big-budget "Pacific Rim" can cross the $40 million mark for the weekend and keep up with the Adam Sandler ensemble comedy. 7 years 14 weeks ago via donnieyen

Pacific Rim
This weekend’s films are particularly polarized, in terms of, well, just about everything—genre, budget, audience, expected profits, and unfortunately, quality.

Box Office Report: 'Pacific Rim' Opens to $3.6 Mil Thursday Night; 'Grown Ups 2' Nabs $2.3 Mil – Both films rolled out at 7 p.m. in North America; overseas, Guillermo del Toro's monster movie is soaring in Asia with an opening day gross of $3.8 million, but soft in Australia. 7 years 14 weeks ago via brucelee
