Review: Getaway (And Stay Away)

Ethan Hawke is an ex-getaway driver tear-assing through Sofia, Bulgaria to rescue his kidnapped wife (Rebecca Budig) from a cyber villain who appears to him as a disembodied voice (Jon Voight). As Voight barks commands in his campiest Hanz&Franz, Selena Gomez infiltrates the car (her car, recently stolen), later out-sleuthing Hawke with a spate of iPad apps that slowly hack away at the villain’s agenda and our credulity as well.

Pictures and Dark Castle Entertainment starring Academy Award® nominee Ethan Hawke (“Training Day,” “The Purge,” “Sinister”), actress and international music sensation Selena Gomez (“Springbreakers,” “Wizards of Waverly Place”), and Academy Award® winner Jon Voight (“Coming Home,” the “National Treasure” films) under the direction of Courtney Solomon (“An American Haunting”), who also produced the film.
First 'Getaway' Trailer Suggests a Familiar Ride

It may be true that there aren't any new stories to be told, but there's still a difference between a film that tries to put a unique spin on a familiar tale and a movie that settles for a generic retelling. Judging from its title, you might guess that the Ethan Hawke/Selena Gomez thriller Getaway would fall into the latter camp -- and after watching this trailer, you probably won't change your mind.
