GODZILLA Screenwriter Max Borenstein Returning to Pen the Sequel

collider.com – It wasn't a huge surprise when Legendary Pictures announced Godzilla 2 at Comic-Con. Godzilla had a huge opening weekend, and it recently crossed $200 million domestic. screenrant.com – It may have been somewhat divisive due to the amount (or lack thereof) of screen time for its title character, but Warner Bros./Legendary Pictures’ reboot of Godzilla was by and large a success. Grossing $93.1 million domestically in its opening weekend, the creature feature ultimately fell victim to the second weekend blues (a 66.8 percent drop), but had strong enough legs to finish with $200.6 million in the States and $524.9 million worldwide.

There will indeed be an Aquaman movie, and Warner Bros. has set Will Beall and Kurt Johnstad to work on competing scripts. Bad Boys 3 is about to get real, according to Martin Lawrence. He said the script is "getting close, and it all looks good."

Godzilla 2 Release Date Set For 2018

With Gareth Edwards tied up working on one of the pending Star Wars spinoffs, there's no telling when Legendary will be able to get him back on the lot for a Godzilla sequel -- but as the studio revealed during its Comic-Con panel, they're keeping Edwards in the fold for a follow-up. Appearing in a videotaped message during the panel, Edwards thanked everyone who turned out to see Godzilla earlier this year and added, "It means we get to make another one.

We aren't sure exactly how long it takes to count through nearly $200 million in global box office receipts, but it obviously takes less than a weekend: No sooner has Godzilla emerged as our most recent cineplex champ than the folks at Warner Bros. and Legendary have announced they're already planning the sequel.
