By now, we're all accustomed to the boundless visual possibilities of computer-generated effects, and aware that we're living in a world in which filmmakers have the ability to show us just about anything within the realm of human imagination. In fact, if you've got enough of the studio's money, amazing visuals are now the easy part -- these days, Hollywood's toughest trick is coming up with enough old-fashioned narrative magic to support all that splendor.

New Guardians Of The Galaxy trailer introduces the team: watch now A new trailer for Guardians Of The Galaxy has arrived online, in which we're provided with another introduction to the titular team of unlikely heroes. "The fate of 12 billion people is in the hands of these criminals?" exclaims Glenn Close in the new trailer, and Star-Lord and co. certainly aren't your traditional, clean-cut band of do-gooders. However, as Chris Pratt's leading man points out, they aren't about to "stand by as evil wipes out the galaxy", which quite frankly, is a relief.

Once upon a time, filmmaking technology made the idea of a serious superhero movie all but impossible -- and then directors' toys caught up with the times, enabling such stone-faced comic-inspired classics as The Dark Knight. But as powerful as those films were in terms of getting a broader audience to take superheroes seriously, they also took a bit of the fun out of watching people save the day; nobody wants camp, necessarily, but a good, light-hearted action-adventure romp with special powers could go a long way toward reminding all of us how much fun blockbusters used to be.

Way back when Marvel first announced the Guardians of the Galaxy movie, and it still seemed like a crazy idea that stood a snowball's chance of succeeding, Jason Momoa reportedly met with the studio to screen test for the role of the surly, vengeance-seeking alien Drax the Destroyer -- and then turned down the opportunity to play the character.

Bradley Cooper
From the moment Marvel announced their plans to film a Guardians of the Galaxy movie, fans of the comics have been waiting to hear who'd play the voice of Rocket Raccoon. One of the publisher's oddest heroes, Rocket is a -- you guessed it -- raccoon-like alien who's as notable for his homicidal glee as he is for his cuddly appearance, and the idea that Marvel is willing to put him on the big screen is as indicative of the studio's billion-dollar chutzpah as anything it's ever done.

Vin Diesel Reportedly in Talks for 'Guardian of the Galaxy's' Groot

Groot
The last time anyone heard anything from Vin Diesel regarding his upcoming absorption into the Marvel Universe, he was telling fans that his still-unspecified role in a still-unnamed Marvel project would have something to do with "a kind of love story" -- leading to speculation that Diesel would either be playing the Vision or Thanos, two characters with decidedly unorthodox love lives (and personalities that would seem to lend themselves to Diesel's uniquely deadpan onscreen persona).
