Review: Disconnect (The World is Full of Empathy Inhibitors)

Disconnect is the newest topical drama about the ever growing gap between humans and our humanity. The primary culprit is handheld, but as the phrase (sort of) goes: cell phones don't kill people; people kill people. And those who endanger themselves by "kindling" the flame (get it?) aren't promised redemption when they see the world beyond their handy.

Marvel Studios has begun production on Captain America: The Winter Soldier, and they're celebrating by releasing the sequel's first still -- as well as a few tantalizing tidbits of information regarding the plot.
As the press release puts it, "Captain America: The Winter Soldier will pick up where Marvel’s The Avengers left off, as Steve Rogers struggles to embrace his role in the modern world and teams up with Natasha Romanoff, aka Black Widow, to battle a powerful yet shadowy enemy in present-day Washington, D.C."

It sounded like one of those wild rumors that's just plausible enough to trick people into thinking it's true, but those recent reports regarding Robert Redford joining the cast of Captain America: The Winter Soldier were actually based in reality -- and it sounds like he had a pretty compelling reason to sign on.

During its relatively brief time as a standalone studio, Marvel has developed a reputation for wooing seemingly incongruous talent for its films (like, say, getting Kenneth Branagh to direct Thor). Which is to say we shouldn't be surprised by any news that comes out of the House of Ideas' casting department -- but it's still hard not to be shocked by today's reports that Robert Redford is in talks for Captain America:

Frank Grillo to Co-Star in James Wan-Produced Horror Film

The "Untitled James Wan Presents Thriller" - formerly known as House of Horror - is adding another cast member to the roster: Frank Grillo. Variety says he'll co-star alongside Maria Bello, who was confirmed to star last November. Grillo starred in last year's The Grey and he'll be suiting up soon to star on Captain America 2.
