Binh and I were expecting “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part I” to open as well as, if not slightly better than, the previous two films, both of which debuted in the $150M range. It did $122M, way below our predictions (or even the most conservative figures from the industry). We discuss why that happened. “Dumb and Dumber To” tumbled in its second week, continuing Jim Carrey’s recent slide at the box office. We debated over which of the three indies -- “Birdman,” “Foxcatcher,” and “The Theory of Everything” -- will eventually break out.

‘Foxcatcher’ Pins $48K Per-Screen Average in Specialty Box-Office Opening “Foxcatcher” is the latest awards hopeful to make a splash in its debut at the specialty box office. Although some thought that the huge gap between releases and the dwindling fanbase might do the film in, Dumb and Dumber To performed more than admirably. Let the talk of a third film begin. Big Hero 6 is the number 2 film with $36 million.

Film Review: Foxcatcher

Latino Review - Fri, 2014-11-14 21:13

Film Review: Foxcatcher Stark. Cold. Lonely. This is the kind of world that Bennett Miller created for Foxcatcher, starring Steve Carell and Channing Tatum. The film follows the true story relationship between wrestler Mark Schultz (Tatum) and his multi-millionaire sponsor John du Pont (Carell), as they train for the 1988 games in Seoul. Mark Ruffalo co-stars as Mark’s brother Dave Schultz, who is also a champion wrestler. Foxcatcher begins abruptly, introducing us to Tatum’s burly and bull-like Mark.
